Rutherfords view of the Holy Spirit
by Christ Alone indoes anyone have scans of these references?
this comment was taken from http://ed5015.tripod.com/jwoccultconnection58.htm.
joseph rutherford, the second president of the wts, believed his spiritual enlightenment came from angels because the holy spirit had ceased functioning since 1918. the angels channeled information into his mind from god residing on the star alcyone.

Eeek! This was when I was a JW....
My old place was broken into but they didn't take the good bottle of Tequilia I had purchased on a vaca in Mexico. I ended up getting plastered. I called one of my JW friends to pick my up and take me to her place. On on the way I felt like I was about to get sick. She then pulled over, turned her head so she didn't have to watch. As I opened the door to lean over, I ended up falling out of the car, she turned her head back to check on me but I wasn't there...oppps! First you see me then you don't..... when we finally got to here place I proceeded to tell her I was going to take a magic carpet ride mind you I didn't even eat the worm....

Serious??
The majority who leave do so for very good reason and know way too much about the WTS.
Why would anyone admit that here anyway?? Many from the WTS read JWN, that's a weird question, unless you're trying to get more info on this

Will Embracing the Internet lead to Increased Growth for the Watchtower?
by jwfacts inmore important than the reduction in the size of the new magazine is that the watchtower will be actively promoting its website and encouraging people use it to download magazines.
my concern is that this has the potential to lead to an increase in growth for the watchtower.. the door-to-door preaching work has been one of the most inefficient means imaginable to gain converts, and done little more than tie up the time of active jws.
now, by directing people to the internet, witnesses can spread their message at an alarming rate for little cost.. do you feel that this has the potential to lead to a surge in growth of jehovah's witnesses?

They already have a site, which doesn't seem to be ensaring more victims. There's so much daming material and info. there's no way they'll ever be able to recover. As Blondie also mentioned the majority of those other countries can't afford computers, much less know how to opperate one. Even here in the states, Mahattan for instance, there's more JW's and KHS in lower class areas on the island. I was shocked to find this out! Bethel has been in Brooklyn for how many years, and they have only been able to attract people in the lower income statues on the island of Mahattan and Brooklyn?! In fact there's not one KH on Manhattan in a nice area.
I honestly feel it's a ploy to streamline overhead and product. It can be utilized for great money making potential and it's been mentioned they're going to give their site a facelift which I'm sure will be more appealing to the RnF. An internet store is open 24/7 for business world wide, how many JW's does that make? They'll sell more must haves to the flock. It's a known fact people shop more online these days... PDF files, Hotel reservations, CD's, Music, order hard copy litrature, emergency to go bags LOL.....

INFO from Freeminds: http://www.freeminds.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2212:607-bce-the-bible-or-the-formula&catid=5:dates-chronology&Itemid=700
WTS takes a position that the Bible can be used to calculate when Christ would begin ruling. The basis of the formula was developed, not by Charles Taze Russell, but by a man named John Aquila Brown, in the year 1823.
The Day-For-Year Rule
The formula relies on Brown’s theory that applies the “day-for-year rule” to the 7-year period of King Nebuchadnezzar’s insanity. There are two instances of this rule in the Bible. One is in Numbers and the other is in Ezekiel. In both instances, the Bible states that the rule is to be applied.[i] The Bible makes no such application in Daniel Chapter 4. It is Brown who applies the rule at Daniel 4. Brown breaks the years down into days and converts those days into years, so that 7 years equals 2,520 days, which, in turn, equal 2,520 years.
The Daniel 4 – Luke 21 Connection
Brown connected his 2,520 years of Daniel 4 with the “appointed times of the nations” described by Jesus Luke 21:24.[ii] According to Jesus, the “appointed times” end when he returns in power and glory. Jesus makes no connection between the “appointed times of the nations” and Daniel’s prophecy of Nebuchadnezzar’s insanity. Brown’s connecting Daniel 4 with Luke 21 is his own speculation. This connection is not specified in the Bible. [iii]
The Erroneous Interpretations of Luke 21, 2 Chronicles 36, Daniel 9 and Jeremiah 25
The formula holds that the “appointed times of the nations” start with the destruction of the ancient temple and end, 2,520 years later, with the beginning of Christ’s invisible rule in heaven. This idea originated with N.H. Barbour’s commentary and computations in connection with Ezekiel 21:25, 26 in combination with Luke 21:24.[iv]
Next, the formula attempts to establish when the ancient temple was destroyed for no other reason than to establish a calendar date for the beginning of the 2,520 years. It cites the writings of Ezra and Daniel, who recalled the destruction of the ancient temple as well as the captivity of the Jews in Babylon and the desolations of their homeland.[v] Ezra and Daniel state that these events would play out in fulfillment of Jeremiah’s 70-year prophecy. Jeremiah had prophesied that Babylon would rule for 70 years, during which time the nations would be subject to her king.[vi] Although Ezra, Daniel and Jeremiah were each describing different elements of the same subject, the formula combines these Bible passages to assert that the 70 years began with the destruction of Jerusalem. The land would lay desolate for 70 years until the Jews who were released from captivity in Babylon would once again populate it. The formula then turns to secular history, which establishes that the Jewish captives were released in the year 539 B.C.E. Finally, the formula allows two years for the captives to return to their homeland--in 537 B.C.E. Counting back 70 years from 537 B.C.E. renders the date of 607 B.C.E. for the destruction of the ancient temple, and the start of the 2,520 years. These 2,520 years or “appointed times of the nations” end in 1914 C.E. with the beginning of Christ’s invisible rule in heaven.
In review :
- The formula applies the day-for-year rule to Daniel 4, something the Bible does not do;
- The formula connects Daniel 4 to Luke 21, something the Bible does not do; and
- The formula defines the 70-year prophecy of Jeremiah as beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem and ending with the repopulating of the Jewish homeland, something Jeremiah does not do.[vii]
In Conclusion
By asserting that the Bible contains a code that Jehovah’s Witnesses alone have cracked by means of their formula, they foster the impression that they alone are teaching the correct understanding of Bible prophecy. If this were true, the Bible would support their formula. The above demonstrates that it does not. Whereas the Watch Tower Society contends that secular history of the period under consideration is unreliable, it is their formula that is far more prone to error. Nevertheless, the investment of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the formula is so great that they must continue to stand behind the date of 607 B.C.E. In truth, it is not the Bible that Jehovah’s Witnesses rely on for this date; it is their own formula.

FROM A BLOG:
Sorry, dotori, but your alternative formula is invalid. The leap years were every three, six and eight years, etc. Look it up. Therefore, with the new deficient Jewish formula we reach the year 1945, not the all important year of 1914:
353 + 353 + 383 + 353 + 353 + 383 + 353 = 2531 - 587 + 1 = 1945
The addition of one year at the end is because there was no year 0 AD.***************************************************************************************
JWFACTS has a compelling arguement:
"Ask him why he trusts historians with their figure for 539, which is the basis for 607, but then cannot trust them that it was only 50 years and not 70 years earlier that Jerusalem was destroyed? And it he doesn't trust them, how does he know 539 is correct?"
****************************************************************************************
stillstuckcuz, don't let your Dad sidetrack you, stick to his exact questions regarding 607 and bible calculations.
Also, stay away from the big question which is "do you believe or not the WTS is Gods organization"? That's a DF question.
Just say things don't add up and you're doing your own private reasearch. Don't let him try to trick you with questions not relating to the subject at hand.
Good Luck

I dunno, I agree with Dogpatch... it's most likely a new business plan. WTS saves ink, paper, presses, employee time. I bet they're probably getting updated digital type presses that are more efficient and cost effective. I was asurpised to see the latest low end qaulity of hard bound books and WT paper. They are cutting corners for sure and saving money.
Also, if they have an excuse to revamp their site, they can get rid of many things like memorial partakers info......etc.....I believe. Plus, if they flood the internet with more WT propaganda (maybe in their pin head minds) they think they can combat opposers info.
I don't believe they can get too far with their new internet format/scheme. Many many who are vunrable to their cluctches either are not computer literate or can not afford a computer. It's a fact, even in Manhattan. Most JW's as well as KH are in lower class areas.
At the same time, maybe in the near future certain JW's who can afford and Ipad, etc. will be using them at WT meetings and the WTS will be selling the hardware......$$$$$
I think with all the selling off of property, etc is a new business plan as well as shelding their assists. Plus, you need more money to make more money$$$
All just a guess and speculations

DISCUSSION WITH A JW; YOUR INPUT PLEASE...
by Mary ini'm 'talking' with a jw on another site who of course, does not believe that they are 'false prophets' and says that:.
"...prophetic inspiration and being filled with the spirit ( to use a common expression) do not mean the same thing.".
"...again the wts is using the term "prophet" in the basic sense of a spokesman.

Charles Sunutko presented the talk "Serving with Everlasting Life in View", making the following statement:
"Stay Alive to Seventy Five"

"Does God's rest day parallel the time man has been on earth since his creation? Apparently so. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of Gods rest day come to an end? The year 1975. It means that within a relatively few years we will witness the fulfilment of the remaining prophecies that have to do with the "time of the end"." Awake! 1966 Oct 8 pp.19-20
"The immediate future is certain to be filled with climactic events, for this old system is nearing its complete end. Within a few years at most the final parts of Bible prophecy relative to these "last days" will undergo fulfilment." Watchtower 1968 May 1 p.272
